I used to think the rules of quitting didn't apply to me because I was special. Nobody knew how hard it was for ME. I had STUFF to take care of. RESPONSIBILITIES. Things that couldn't wait until tomorrow. How in the hell could I be expected to do all that AND not smoke cigarettes?
I had HARDSHIPS. My father died, early and unexpected. My sister and her 27 or however many kids are a constant drain on everyone. I've got a ton of student loan debt that has to be paid off. How do they expect me to HANDLE all of this without cigarettes?
Eventually, it became evident to me that life, itself, is made up of all that material, and none of it was going to put itself on "pause" for a few months while I figured out how to not smoke. So, I just did it. It wasn't easy. It was hard as f*ck, if you want the honest truth. But it became worth it, because the thought of me being sick and miserable for 10 years only to die 20 years early made the math impossible to ignore. My best chance was to never smoke again. NOPE.
