Goggles O " “The definition of insanity is doing over and over again things that can kill you”.

A quote often misattributed to Einstein is “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”.
A variation of this quote is “The definition of insanity is doing over and over again things that can kill you”. This is certainly true of smoking.
I see members here with anonymous avatars and non-descript names who have been ‘trying’ to quit for 2+ years. Every day or two it shows ‘Quitting Today’ and they get confetti and a hat and lots of smiles and congratulations from fellow members. They never post to say how they are doing or if they are craving or to ask any questions. But within 2-3 days, sometimes within 12-24hrs, again it says ‘Quitting Today’.
What is it going to take to get through to these members and enable them to break their own self-inflicted inertia? Do they think that quits are catching? That if they log in each day, even though it’s Day 1 again, that they will miraculously catch the quitting bug?
There’s a saying within AA and NA groups when they talk about the 12 steps - ‘It works if you work it’. The same applies to an on-line resource like Quitnet. There’s a wealth of information here - all that you need for quitting smoking. There’s all the support here for you as well - you just have to reach out for it.
Coming on and only posting things like ‘Day 1’ or ‘Feeling good’ hasn’t helped you quit. So how about trying something different and interact more here. I assume you do want to quit when you’re a member of a quit smoking website, so start taking some action on keeping a quit longer than 3 days.
There’s all these people who have quit before you to show the way, and there will be people at the same stage as you to walk with you along your quit smoking journey. The first step has to come from you though, and to say ‘ENOUGH, I’ve had enough day 1s. I don’t want to see another party hat and confetti for Day 1 ever again’. It’s time to stop the insanity before it’s too late and the insanity stops you.
