John S Discussion started by John S 5 years ago
I know some of you from the "old-new" Quitnet used their app and it was great and are probably wondering "where is the NOPE app?", hopefully I can explain a bit more here and refer folks to this discussion as the question has probably been asked a dozen or more times.

First, the NOPE365 site started from the ground up on October 14, 2019 (a week and a day ago as of this post) and it was created the day Quitnet told everyone that they were shutting down.   An app can take 6-12 months to program :).

That being said, this is what is called a "Responsive" site, that means that it should function just as well on your mobile browser as it would as an app.  On both iPhone and Android you can save a web site as an icon on your apps screen so it acts like an app, even though it is just a website.

Will we create one?  Maybe, it depends on the resources available to do so.  An app can take many hundreds of hours to put together and then the website itself has to be specially modified to let the app "do its thing" freely.  So let's say 400+ hours of programming total.  That's between $20,000 and $60,000 development dollars.

NOPE is a free site and currently has ZERO monetization, so no money comes in.  With that in mind it means that any large projects like this fall on my shoulders to pump out and there are only so many hours in a day I have to dedicate to such a thing, particularly when there isn't a paycheck on the other end that will make sure my house doesn't get snatched back by the bank :).

I'm looking at possible non-invasive ways to have NOPE help pay for itself.  Non invasive meaning I won't do inline Google advertising because their privacy policy is something I strongly object to, so that may mean trying to get site sponsors such as hospitals or other businesses within the cessation space.  But this is down the road, and will require a well thought out business and marketing plan, so I will be carrying the costs of operating this site myself for a while yet.

If you know an app developer that wants to donate time (no, I didn't think so... :D ) to NOPE and "the cause" then I would be happy to chat with them, but I have the privacy our community and the stability of this site as my primary objectives so it'll have to be someone I can trust quite a bit ;).

:D
