This Is Not Facebook

FROM:  Troutnut 1. ... posted (3) Years Ago, Circa 2016

Just a reminder. This is not Facebook!

This site works because people who have successfully gotten out of the nicotine cave are willing to stick around and tell you how we did it. Elders and Doctors here receive no compensation. They hang around only so you may receive the truth.

If you are a newer member, we are here to help you. You are not here to help us. While it does help us to help you, this only works when we tell you the truth as we know it.

With zero days, a few days, or even a few months here please recognize that you are still a babe in the woods. Your hokey theories about vaping, e-cigs, cutting back, just one, and smoking pot as substitutes are just that. Hokey Theories! This is especially true when you are still hooked on nicotine in one form or the other. Truth is, nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs on the planet, and it takes years to beat it, not days…

If you come to Quitnet as a practicing addict, and start advertising your hokey theories, being a bad influence on our newbies, or peddling other addictive substances, you can expect resistance from our regular members. Lots of it.

It is common for addicts in recovery settings to try to run the place with zero days, just a few days, or maybe a few months of treatment. It is also common for addicts to try to sneak their drug of choice into the treatment center, or substitute other drugs in their place. Anything to avoid having to face and be rid of the addictive substance.

As Elders and Doctors, our job is to call you on it when we see it. Most of us have tried it ourselves in the past. We know what works and what doesn’t because we already tried it. At that point, we don’t really care whether or not you like it. We will tell you the truth anyway. Why else would we be here? I like being popular here…but this is not a popularity contest. Its a life and death matter.

If you keep your yap shut about continuing your addiction, or starting new ones in its place, we probably won’t know unless you tell us. This is not the best way to use the Q, but you’ll get a lot less heat than if you try to be a Billboard or poster child for Hokey Theories.

There is an old recovery saying that says “Take to cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth”. You can beat this thing and become an Elder and Doctor of Quitology one day too. But it will take time, discipline, hard work, and good listening.
