Hi everyone.  I'm the newbie here now apparently.

I read somewhere that if you make it through the first week, you are something like 9 times more likely to successfully quit.  I'm on day 4... the days are so long... I've tried several times to quit but the best I've ever done is like a month.

In the past, I tried nicotine replacement therapy, but this time I'm trying bupropion.  So I think I'm nicotine free now.  Been smoking for about 15 years, when I quit three days ago I was up to about 1.5 to 2 packs per day.

I'm pretty confident this will be my forever quit.  I mean, I have to be, right?  Otherwise how can I succeed?

The major difference this time around is that instead of beating myself up or berating myself as I so often do, self-compassion is at the forefront of my mind.  I made a collage to remind myself of all the important reasons to quit: to be healthier, to be a positive role model, to grow old, to honour my father, to avoid becoming another statistic.

I forgive myself.  When I worry about the damage I have done to my body already, I tell myself I have time to heal.  When I regret the $100,000+ I have wasted on smoking, I remind myself of all the things I have to be grateful for.
