I reposted yesterday from a 2004 member here, that elaborated failure to keep quit was because of smokers who rationalize that there is something “good” about smoking…

“Romancing the Smoke” seems to be a timeless misconception…         

I remember my cravings and I would get obsessed with the thought of needing a cigarette to make me feel “better”.

When I was fifteen years old I went to the dime store in Cleveland, Ohio after 9th grade school let out for the day and I ended up sitting at the soda fountain with two other girls in my class.  They were drinking a coke and smoking cigarettes and very quietly talking to each other [about me I thought].  Then I was asked if I wanted to try one…

I was lonely. I was shy and getting good grades but not really “fitting in” with most of my classmates…  “OK” I said and before long and very shortly after I took a drag to light the cigarette I was coughing like crazy!

It tasted awful and I was so dizzy I fell off the stool…

They were laughing at me! I felt like I “belonged” finally…

I am very sure that most, if not all of you, have “been there, done that in some way, shape or form!

The lousy butt did NOT make me feel good! The new friendships I truly thought I had [in my young teenage mind] were the ONLY GOOD PART!

Go back in your mind to that FIRST CIGARETTE you had…

When it was…  Where you were…  How it all started…  WHY you went along with it?

PLEASURE was NOT what you really experienced… Was it?

According to the American Cancer Society…  besides NICOTINE (the addictive drug that produces very short-lived, “good” feelings come with chemicals like: Hydrogen cyanide Formaldehyde Lead Arsenic Ammonia Benzene Carbon Monoxide Nitrosamines Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) And radioactive elements, such as uranium…   Many of these substances cause cancer!

Some can cause heart disease, lung disease, or other serious health problems.

Most of the substances come from the burning tobacco leaves themselves, not from additives included in cigarettes (or other tobacco products)…

How many butts do you think it would take to stop lighting up?

We really DO all know, deep down, that cigarette smoking is an ENDLESS cycle!

So let’s ALL get and stay real the next time a craving hits! Let’s NOT romance it by thinking that smoking will solve a problem or do anything good for us!

We will be back on the not-so-merry-go-round of addiction!

Smoking affects every part of our bodies, in very negative ways…

Let’s CHOOSE LIFE and BETTER HEALTH… NOT Nicotine addiction!
