Bermuda Triangle

FROM:  Troutnut 1. (4 Years Ago Circa 2015)

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are known as the Bermuda Triangle for alcoholics. St. Patty's Day is another drinking holiday that has the capacity to kill plenty of good quits.

Alcohol affects the same reward center in your brain that nicotine affects (google "ventral tagmental area" and "nucleus acumbens") It pumps the same feel good chemicals into your system as the drug nicotine does. It puts to sleep the pre-frontal cortex of your brain which is responsible for making good decisions. And it puts your "lizard brain" in charge which isn't a good thing if your quit is important to you.

If you are new or even slightly shaky in your quit you might consider not drinking at all today. And if you must drink, you might try to moderate it to protect yourself. If you find you cannot not drink, especially when you have a good reason (like this), you may have a secondary problem that needs dealing with.

Addiction is often like a multi-headed dragon. Kill one head, and another pops up. Maybe two!

We also sometimes call this "switching seats on the Titanic."

Be aware that the nico-demon has some pretty nasty friends. And they often work together to keep us sick and enslaved.

Be careful out there!
